Phillip A. Smith Candidate for Secretary

Fellow College Republicans,

The excitement and state pride that was displayed at CPAC 2007 was a fantastic representation of what College Republicans can accomplish when gathered and working together. Attending CPAC and getting to know Chairwoman McTiernan and other state officers during and after DC, has ignited a desire within to help advance the College Republican agenda in New York and spread campus conservatism.

The New York College Republicans have come along way underneath the leadership of Chairman McTiernan. We are now united, organized, and better prepared to assist in the elections of Republican candidates across New York State. I am proud to be called a College Republican and am eager to advance my enthusiasm for the cause to every campus across the state.

Currently I am involved in a variety of college wide activities that have advanced my individual leadership skills. I am a resident assistant, a former member of the student government Election Commission, a programming assistant, student advisory Secretary for the College Admissions division, and a member of an honors type program here at Brockport; DELTA College. I believe I will be able to utilize the skills that I have obtained through these various activities to assist in this years College Republican plan.

I fully endorse the Mctiernan-Aikin ticket. I am honored to be a candidate on the team that is fully prepared to bring the College Republicans to the next level. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks for your time.
Sincerely,
Phillip A. Smith
Candidate for Secretary

McTiernan condemns the launching of Attack blog

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT: Erin McTiernan
(716) 499-6492

STATEMENT FROM NYCRSC CHAIRWOMAN ERIN MCTIERNAN
McTiernan condemns the launching of http://ny4truth.blogspot.com/

Over the past few months I have sat back and ignored the adolescent lies and attacks that my opponent has launched upon myself and the hard working members of the New York College Republican Executive Board. Lies, deceit, and division are the darkest parts of a campaign and represent a very dark chapter in the history of the New York College Republicans.

The recent baseless array of lies and attacks that my opponent has attempted to unleash over the past few months and the most recent launch of http://ny4truth.blogspot.com/, attacking my opponent, represents the darkest days of the NY College Republicans.

These types of attacks are exactly what we have been able to move away from over the past year. We are now a united organization working every day to not only improve every individual chapter in the state, but to also help build the Republican Party in New York and spread the ideals of the Republican Party across college campuses. We have a lot to be proud of and a lot more to accomplish over the next year. A negative attack upon anyone in this organization is counterproductive and distracts from our overall goal of continuing the progress.

Although I do not believe that my opponent has the experience or ideas to lead the New York College Republicans, I do not feel that this type of campaigning is good for New York. We have too much to be proud of to resort to this type of internal attacks. I understand that it is in my opponent's best interest to run a campaign of attacks, lies, and mud slinging when he does not have a record of accomplishments to run on nor a vision for the future of our organization. However, I am hopeful that he and the creator of this repulsive blog would reconsider their actions in the best interest of the New York College Republicans.

Today I call upon my opponent to commit to a fair and ethical campaign and that the developer of http://ny4truth.blogspot.com/ to immediately take down the site. These attacks distracts from out many accomplishments that we as a united team have been able to achieve in the last year, and it diverts our attention away from our goals to take the New York College Republicans to the next level.

As a result of the hard work of our State Board over the last year we are now a strong, united organization, but we still have a lot of work to accomplish. Please do not let these attacks discourage any of us from continuing that success.

FULL TEXT OF AIKIN SPEECH

Good Afternoon.

It is great to see so many College Republicans present on this momentous occasion. Look at the people around you- Syracuse CRs, Canisius CRs, Brockport CRs, St. Bonaventure CRs, Fredonia CRs. From New York City to Syracuse, Buffalo to Rochester, Upstate New York to the Southern Tier, the State of the New York College Republicans is strong. There is no infighting or division in this state; there are only unified New York College Republicans motivated by one cause- the Republican Party.

I joined the Canisius College Republicans early in my college career. I attended the Conservatice Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C. and the New York State Convention in Rochester. Since then, this organization has been my passion because of the people. The New York College Republicans I have met over the years are the most dedicated people to stand behind a worthy cause.

But first, let me share some of my experiences at Canisius College as Vice-President. When I was a freshman, our chapter lacked funding, its membership was dwindling, and our college administration was uncooperative with our events. Over the past year, I have restored our chapter to the Republican movement it once was.

This year, we passed our largest budget ever of over $13,000. These financial resources have allowed us to attend a Sabres game, CPAC, and the State Convention at a reduced price. We’ve given back to our members; joining the College Republicans at Canisius is not a financial burden, it is a reward.

In 2002, the College Administration prevented us from placing 3,000 flags on campus for the one year remembrance of September 11th. Last summer, our Executive Board met with members of the administration. We asked questions, pressed for answers, and made it difficult for the administration to say NO. Since then, our club has held an Animal Rights BBQ and a 2nd Amendment Appreciation Day. Our club is relaying the Republican message on campus and students are listening.

Our membership is strong. It has grown from six to over thirty active members in less than two semesters. Our attendance at regular meetings is twenty-five members. Students are proud to be Republicans on campus again.

Our team made these successes possible. Our Executive Board members, such as Andy Kowaleski and Ross Kostecky, invited new members to the club. These successes were made possible by our members too. Adam Dotzler, Jen Hood, and Bill Golba rose early every Saturday to walk door to door to re-elect Congressman Tom Reynolds. I’d like to thank the Canisius College Republicans for their continued support.

As your Western Vice-Chairman, with the help of John McGrath, we have fostered greater communication in the region. John and I intend to travel to chapters in the West over the next month. We’ve already begun planning a regional fundraiser in the near future. More importantly, the region is growing. Together, we are working on local community colleges in the region.

Yes, the New York College Republicans have achieved many accomplishments this year, but we can do better. Our organization's brightest future will be shaped by leaders who truly care about it. The McTiernan ticket is that bright future. That is why I am running for Co-Chairman of the New York College Republican State Committee. As your Co-Chairman, I will: serve every College Republican in New York, help build new chapters across all regions, work together with Regional Vice-Chairs, County GOP Chairman, and local elected officials to win campaigns, and raise the financial resources our organization needs to be successful.

These are not my goals; instead, they are the goals of our Party. Next Saturday, Erin and I will announce our plan to take New York to the Next Level at Pace University. The greatest opportunities for this organization are in the near future.

This great opportunity presents an important question to this organization: Who will continue to grow college chapters, lead us to election victories, and make every college student proud to be a member of the New York College Republicans? The answer is clear – The McTiernan/Aikin Ticket. Ladies and gentlemen, your Chairwoman, Erin McTiernan.

Thank you.

Elected Officials, Party Leaders, and Fellow College Republicans:

I want to first thank everyone for coming out today. I know the last place some of you would like to be today is sitting here, especially on Saint Patrick’s Day and also with the NCAA Basketball game getting ready to begin down the street. However, being 100% Irish I could not think of a better day for this event and the events that will follow this evening. Thanks again for coming out today.

Over the past year the New York College Republicans have accomplished what seemed to once be impossible-we united. The division that once hurt this organization is gone and with that, this past year has been a time of great changes and success for the College Republicans of New York State.

We turned out hundreds of volunteers for campaigns all over the state, at all levels of government. In particular, the NYCRs made large contributions to the successful re-election of Congressman Jim Walsh, Congressman Tom Reynolds, Congressman Peter King, Assemblyman Mike Cole, Assemblyman Giglio, and many other elected officials.

Chapters from around the Capital region, including St. Rose, Siena, Adirondack Community College, and SUNY Albany worked effortlessly on the Sweeney campaign. Despite the loss, the College Republicans learned how important grassroots efforts are on any campaign and developed critical knowledge for future campaigns.

Within the Central Region, the Syracuse and Cortland CRs went door-to-door for Congressman Walsh, Congressional candidate Ray Meier, and Assemblyman Jeff Brown.
Over 40 College Republicans from Fredonia, St. Bonaventure, University at Buffalo, University of Rochester, Nazareth, and Brockport spent the weekend before Election Day rallying for New York State Comptroller candidate, Chris Callaghan. Someone that I grew to really admire as one of the hardest working candidates that I have ever seen. The New York College Republicans organized one of the biggest literature drops for the Callaghan campaign, encompassing Chautauqua and Erie Counties. Through their dedicated efforts, Callghan won Chautauqua County and did better than any statewide candidate in Erie County.

The election cycle of 2006 proved to be one of the toughest cycles Republicans have seen in quite some time, especially here in New York. However, this did not crush the energy of the New York College Republicans. We also had one of the largest delegations ever to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, DC (CPAC.) Our delegation had over 100 College Republicans, making us close if not the largest delegation in the country. There was something unique about our delegation this year, and I think the Rhode Island College Republican State Chairman put it best when he told me. “You have one of the largest and craziest federations in the country, but I have never seen a federation so close as yours.” A year ago at CPAC we were a clearly divided federation, this year we shined as an example for all states to see how close we have grown, not only as an organization but also as friends. Not only are we the premiere statewide grass roots organization, we are finally a statewide network of close friendships, laughs, and countless memories.

We have also held fundraising events such as the NYCRSC First Annual “Steamrolling” Cocktail Reception in Albany in recognition of insane Governor.

While the New York College Republicans have accomplished many great things this year, there is still more work to be done. That is why today, I formally announce my candidacy for reelection.

As Chair, I plan to take the NY College Republicans to the next level. Over the next year I have an aggressive plan for the College Republicans. It is going to take a lot of hard work, but the benefits will be well worth it. It seems that over the last year the harder we worked to better our organization, the more fun we ended up having.

From the day I get reelected until the polls close at 9pm on Election Night my focus will be doing everything possible as the premiere grass roots organization to get our local candidates elected. The only way to do that is to take our organization to the next level. This is going to take more than rallying our grassroots; it is going to take a serious expansion of our organization across New York, strengthening of our regions, building those important relationships between the County Chairman and the local College Republican chapters, it is going to take the implementation of our communications and technology plan, education and leadership training schools around the state, an intense focus on fundraising so we can become self-sufficient when proving our resources to campaigns, and of course a lot of devoting and passion for the Republican Party. We have the opportunity as a party to rebuild our “farm team” of local candidates in 2007 so that we can become a stronger force in the 2008 New York State races.
Next Saturday, at Pace University, in New York City I will be officially unveiling my plan to take the College Republicans to new heights.

Although he couldn’t be here today, I want to thank Frank Guidice for all the support he has given to me from the very beginning. I would also like to thank my fiancé and best friend, Eric Amidon. The wealth of ideas that you bring to this organization are greatly appreciated and I can’t thank you enough.

I also want to say thank you to the individual chapters that I have worked with this past year. If it wasn’t for the hard work and tremendous effort you guys put in, the NYCRSC would never have accomplished the great things that we did this past year.

MCTIERNAN AND AIKIN ENDORSE SCOTT JEFFERS FOR CENTRAL DEPUTY VC

Below is a bio of Scott Jeffers, candidate for Central Deputy Vice Chairman:

Scott Jeffers originally hails from the small upstate N.Y. city of Johnstown where he developed strong Republican leanings at an early age. Johnstown, a small but historically significant city, was hard hit economically under the hash regime of Mario Cuomo and Scott can still remember going to his 4th Grade teachers and telling them to vote for Pataki in the 1994 governor’s race just because he knew that the “R” under Pataki’s party identification meant “right, relief, and recovery.” He has been a staunch Republican ever since and after graduating from Johnstown Senior High School in 2002, Scott brought his Republican belief system to central New York.
Scott has been a member of the SUNY Cortland College Republicans since its birth at C-State in the fall of 2003. Since then Scott has held just about every position the club could offer, starting as Parliamentarian and then moving on to hold the duel position of Public Relations and Treasurer before finally becoming chair in the fall of 2005. Deciding to stay involved, even as a graduate student, Scott has seen to it that the College Republicans are leaders on campus and control a number of important student committees. Scott has also made the C-State College Republicans a vocal tool for the “silent majority” of conservative students by sponsoring a number of speakers and events throughout the year in order to raise awareness of the prevailing liberal bias on SUNY Cortland’s campus.
Scott has been a student at SUNY Cortland since the fall of 2002 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Social Studies/History. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree and expects to graduate in the fall/spring of 2008. Scott is a member of the Fulton County Republican Committee as well as the Cortland County Republican Committee and has done volunteer campaign work for State Senator James Seward, State Assemblyman Gary Finch, former Congressman Sherwood Boehlert, former Congressional candidate Ray Meier, Johnstown Mayor Sarah Slingerland, and has worked on a number of Cortland/Fulton County supervisory/legislative and city council races.
Scott resides in Cortland, N.Y. and looks forward to further helping the all NYSCR chapters and the CR State Committee make a difference one campus at a time.

CAITLIN SCHOLL FOR STATE SECRETARY

Fellow New York College Republicans,

This past year has been a great time for the New York College Republicans. Under the leadership of Chairwoman McTiernan we were able to rebuild this organization into one that finally is respected among our elected officials as well as the leaders of our party. Although we have accomplished great things this year there is still a great deal more to be done and that is why I have decided to run for New York College Republican Secretary. As Secretary I will continue to help our organization grow as well as maintaining to work hard to get Republicans elected!

I have been active within the College Republicans since my freshman year at the University at Albany, which is where I became the Chairwoman of their College Republican Club in 2005. At last years State College Republican Convention Chairwoman McTiernan appointed me to the position of Executive Director. As, Executive Director I helped to organize state meetings as well as events, which includes the 1st Annual “Steamrolling” Cocktail reception. Finally, in February I became Acting Secretary of the NYCRSC. As Acting Secretary I helped Chairwoman McTiernan put together New York’s trip to CPAC 2007, which included over 100 New York College Republicans!

CPAC 2007 is a great example of the state-wide camaraderie and communication that has occurred this year. I want this to continue and I believe that we can bring even more clubs down to Washington, D.C. and make New York’s presence at CPAC even bigger next year!

I hope that you will support me in my bid for re-election as the NYCRSC Secretary. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email or call me at any time!

Sincerely,
Caitlin B. Scholl

Brockport College Republicans Endorses Team McTiernan/Aikin

New York State College Republicans,

As we head into the future, the New York College Republican State Committee needs the vision and the leadership that will yield success. There are but two statesmen who can lead this distinct organization and produce the latter results. These leaders are the incumbent N.Y.C.R.S.C. Chairwoman, Erin McTiernan, as well as the current N.Y.C.R.S.C. Western Vice-Chairman, Daniel Aikin.

I have been involved with the N.Y.C.R.S.C. for three years, and have seen no stronger leadership than that from Erin and Dan. Not only have these two great leaders been able to see the vision for the organization, they have been successful at completing the day-to-day operations that are necessary to lead the organization to the successful completion of that vision. I would entrust no one but Erin and Dan to continue to lead the N.Y.C.R.S.C. to success and would not expect to see the latter's full potential seen under any other people.

Therefore, it is my distinct pleasure and privilege, on behalf of the SUNY Brockport College Republicans, to endorse Erin McTiernan for Chairwoman and Daniel Aikin for Co-Chairman of this great organization. I can say without hesitation that these two are the visionaries we need that will ignite Republican success across New York State for next year and years to come.
In freedom,

Thomas S. Johnson, Jr.
Chairman, SUNY Brockport College Republicans

McTiernan and Aikin Announce: Holly A. O’Connor Candidate for Western Region Deputy Vice-ChairVice-Chairwoman

Western Region,
After being inspired this past weekend at CPAC, I would like to announce mycandidacy for the position of Western Region Deputy Vice-Chair.

I am currently the Vice-Chairwoman of the College Republican Chapter atNazareth College in Rochester. Although this is our first year as a staterecognized chapter, I have been influential in making our chapter an activeone. I recently helped petition Nazareth College for funds to allow theofficers to attend CPAC. I have been an integral part of Nazareth’sparticipation at state events such as the Cheney/Kuhl Counter-Protest and theFaso rally during the 2006 elections. In addition to the above activities, Irecently helped paint the Nazareth College Republican logo in our most highlytrafficked tunnel on campus. Finally, I have also coordinated many campusprograms and community service projects.

I would like to see more communication between college chapters and believechapters should work together to organize events. Chapters need to helpneighboring schools to start chapters and guide them through the credentialingprocess.
If elected, I plan on working closely with the Western Region Vice-Chair tosupport the chapters in any capacity possible.

Please contact me with any questions, comments or concerns that you mighthave.
Elect Holly O’Connor for Western Region Deputy Vice-Chair

Thank you,
Holly A. O’Connor
Candidate for Western Region Deputy Vice-ChairVice-Chairwoman, Nazareth College Republicans

A MESSAGE FROM NYC VICE CHAIRMAN RYAN CASNA: NYC REGION ENDORSES MCTIERNAN TICKET; ENDORSES PREDOVICH FOR NYC VICE CHAIR

Members of the New York College Republican State Committee,

I have several issues to address in this letter so I will keep it brief and to the point.

First, it is unanimously decided from the NYC Region that Erin McTiernan has our endorsement for her re-election to Chairwoman for NYCRSC, Inc. Good luck Erin.

Second, I must sadly announce my retirement at the end of this term as New York City Vice-Chair. I will no longer be living in the state of New York next year and therefore my position will need to be filled by someone who does. It was a pleasure working with everyone and I hope to see great things out of you all in the years to come.

On that note, I would like to announce my personal endorsement for Lisa Predovich to be the new New York City Vice Chair. Lisa, as I quoted in the press release last night, is an outstanding asset to the organization and you will see great things from her. Good luck Lisa.

Lastly, I will continue to be Webmaster until a new person steps up to accept the role so, fear not Eric; you will not have to do it. For those of you who read whole emails and have not yet submitted their profile and picture to me, beware…there will be pictures put up in your name that will not flatter you (unless you think you look like Al Gore and are proud of that).

I wish everyone the best of luck with their future endeavors and I expect New York to be my only stiff competition for the best organization in a liberal state when I take over Massachusetts!
Your Friend in a Common Cause,
Ryan T. Casna

"John has the type of fun loving personality that makes him an instant leader. His daily work ethic and devotion to everything that he commits himself to makes him a successful leader. These qualities combined with his passion for the ideals of the Republican party makes him the right guy to lead the Western Region to even higher successes," stated Erin McTiernan, NYCRSC Chair.

"After working with John for the past few months, I know he is the right candidate for Western Vice-Chairman," state Daniel Aikin, candidate for Co-Chairman and current Western Vice Chairman. "John and I share the same vision for the Western Region; its brightest future has yet to come. He is a hardworking individual that will serve the Western Region with prestige and professionalism. John is the leader our organization deserves."

McGrath's entire statement can be found below:

"This past weekend at CPAC, Dan Aikin announced his candidacy for Co-Chairman of the NYCRSC. I would like to wish him luck in the election and announce my candidacy for his position of Western Regional Vice Chairman. I currently serve as your Deputy Vice Chair and credentialed most of your chapters. The West now has more credentialed chapters then any other region in New York and it does need strong leadership."

"I have been involved in the College Republicans since the first week of my freshman year at St. Bonaventure University. I now serve as the club's Vice Chair and have hosted events including a Kuhl for Congress rally, an assemblyman rally, a voter registration drive, and a State of the Union party."

"The region needs to work together in order to attain common goals, which are to elect Republicans to office and promote campus activism. As Western Regional Vice Chair, I would be committed to working together as a region and a state to attain these goals. The greatest way to achieve this is a strong communication structure. Please see my attached plan for the western region."

"I hope I have all of your support and please call or e-mail me with any questions or concerns. Elect John McGrath as your Western Regional Vice Chairman."

A copy of McGrath's plan for the Western Region has been attached.

MCTIERNAN: ‘A NEW BEGINNING’

By: TRUTH · 04/24/2006 · Section: New-York

MCTIERNAN: ‘A NEW BEGINNING’
Erin McTiernan took the reigns as New York CR state chairman this weekend—and took no prisoners.
In her acceptance speech, McTiernan, the Harry Truman of CRs, said, “Maine might have tried to [pull off] “Maine Fest” this year, but next year we are going to have so many people from New York there that the whole conference will feel like “New York fest.”

A NEW ERA FOR THE NEW YORK COLLEGE REPUBLICANS

Sunday, April 24, 2006--Erin McTiernan made history on Sunday by being the first woman elected to the position of Chair in the long history of the New York College Republican State Committee.

Exerts of McTiernan's accepatance speech at the New York College Republican Convention:

"Today marks a new beginning for the New York College Republicans.... There are no more hard feelings and internal politics. Constructive criticism is what I expect from... If you have a problem with a decision I make or have a different approach which you feel is better, tell me. Everyone in this room is a leader and the only way the NYCRs are going to move forward is if we listen to each other and share ideas..."

"We need to face reality: our organization is in trouble. Today the NYCRSC is in debt, has the lowest rate of credential chapters in years, and the majority of chapters in the state have low recruitment numbers. Back in 1992 the New York College Republicans had 90 chapters. Standing here today, April 23, 2006, there are 16 credential chapters. This is completely unacceptable and cannot continue. We need to start building chapters and we need to start today. I am making it a goal for us to double the number of credential chapters here with us today before summer..."

"The only way we can ensure victory is to have the forces and manpower across New York State. When our county committees and statewide candidates call on us for help, we need to be there to give all that we have and more! By next week, Kelli Crowley, our State Secretary, will have an updated list of every credential chapter in NY. From there, we will execute "Operation Homefront"; a plan that will employ CRs when they are at home for break. Just because campuses take a break, doesn't mean we take break..."

"The College Republicans are going to be a driving force in the 2006 elections. The Republican Party is going to need our help in letting Hillary know her stay within New York is over and keeping Eliot Spitzer out of the Governor's Office. We are not only going to be needed for these statewide elections, but also for every Senate and Assembly district in the state. When these campaigns call on us to help, we need to be ready; but first, we must strengthen our chapters around the state."

"The Regional Vice Chairman and the Deputies are going to be the driving force in this transformation. I have asked all the regional vice chair candidates to create a plan for their region for the upcoming year. On November 30th I am asking that all the Regional Vice Chairman create a "State of the Region Report" in which all the Vice Chairs will be asked to reflect on what they have accomplished throughout the campaign season and what their plans going forward are."

"The job of State Chairman is no longer a right or a contest in New York. From now on the person who holds this office will hold it as a privilege and an honor. It will no longer be a job taken lightly."

"My friends, imagine the day that comes when our candidate for U.S. Senate, or Governor of New York personally thanks all of you for your hard work, because he or she only won the election by a handful of votes secured by ambitious political believers like us. It happened before, when Alfonso D'Amto won in New York for US Senate."
"...for every successful chapter that we start, we are that much closer to getting another republican elected to office."
"...that's why we can no longer let false clubs exist, or inflated numbers of members to achieve a more popular status."
"We will be tough, we will be strong, and above all else we will be honest and through these principles, we will earn the respect of our peers, and our leaders in this state they will realize what a viable asset we are to them, and you will see College Republican's become the deciding factor in many more elections."
"...most College Republicans from New York that the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, DC has ever seen. Maine might have tried to be pull of "Maine Fest" this year, but next year we are going to have so many people from New York there that the whole conference will feel like "New York fest."
"The concept of executive board meetings being completely closed to the general membership ends today. As long as I am chair all executive board meetings are open to the general membership. You will not have a vote on issues, but you will definitely have a voice on all issues. We are having executive board meetings every month."
"When a candidate donates to the College Republicans from now on, we are not sending back the standard "thank you" letter. We are sending back a form saying, "thanks for your donation, now what can we do to help get you elected? We are going to be proactive in searching for campaigns that need our help. Campaigns that help the College Republicans will be the first campaigns that the College Republicans help."

Congratulations to the new NYCRSC, Inc Team that was elected at the Long Island Convention:

State Officers
Chairwoman Erin McTiernan
Co-Chairman Frank Guidice (Brockport)
Treasuer Kathleen Hunker (Hofstra)
Secretary Kellie Crowley (Brockport)

McTiernan Helps on Special Election

Saturday--Lockport, NY--Most College Republicans in the country would be visiting chapter chairs and making last minute deals a week away from their convention if they were running for Chair. Most make sure they have the last minute support needed, broker a few "deals" to ensure victory, and threaten people into support (maybe this is only done in New York.)

What was McTiernan doing a week before the convention? Making a real difference in the Republican Party! She was once again working on special elections. Saturday she was going door to door with the Cole for Assembly Campaign in Lockport, NY. She is in the process of organizing a volunteer effort for the weekend following the convention in the Buffalo area (April 29-30.) If you are interested in helping out--please notify Erin ASAP.

The Most Important Reason the NYCRSC needs to be rebuilt

The most vulnerable Gubernatorial Seat in the nation is New York. We have to be organized to be able to provide the grassroots support that is going to be needed to make sure the GOP remains in control of the Governor's Mansion.
